My First Blogger Event!

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be invited to attend my first blogger event. It was a night of networking, professional development and getting to know some amazing brands in Edmonton.

In the corporate world it is so important to network and get to know people in your field. Honestly, that is how I have gotten to know about so many amazing opportunities to help advance my career. To me it just made sense to pursue those same kind of opportunities for this adventure I am on as well. With that I thought I would share just a little bit more about the event.

About the Event

Bloggers & Cocktails Presented was sponsored by Lexus Edmonton West. Which meant that I was fortunate enough to get to take some pictures with this amazing SUV. Can’t help but dream about getting my own one day!

I was so impressed with the location of the event. The Collective (@collective.sta) is a shared space involving and supporting young people through service, business and collaboration. The facility combines support services, space for community groups to gather, and opportunities for young people to develop a retail business. I was lucky enough to meet and talk about the space and the support the City of St. Albert is providing to up and coming artists and entrepreneurs, with both the artist J.B. Morse and Andrew from Tinker Trading Co. I highly recommend checking them out, I was blown away by the talent.

The Collective is also currently housing a Pop Up Shop for Prairie Couture. It was amazing to get to meet Marina and here how she started her business out of a renovated Streamline Trailer (lovingly named Liv Tyler). Bonus that all of their stuff is soooo cute!

Erin Cassidy of The Media Shop

Over the last 15 years, Erin has worked with 100’s of small businesses, helping entrepreneurs define their brands and create innovative ways to market and build revenue streams. I learned about finding my brand’s voice, building my tribe with strategic story telling, and building my audience. I can’t wait to put into play all the advice I received from Erin!

Overall, the event was a great was a chance to get together with other local bloggers for a fun night and to be educated and to discuss topics ranging from fashion, to marketing, to social media, new products and even getting to know some other fabulous ladies on a personal level.

A Quick Introduction

Happy Friday everyone! It is hard to believe that I am finally doing this, and working towards a goal I have thought about for so long. I couldn’t think of a better way to start this blog off than by getting a little personal right off the bat with a quick introduction. You can also check out my “About” page here.

Name: Courtney

Age: 27 (almost 28)

Height: Almost 5’7”

Status: Newlywed, married April 22, 2017

I have a Bachelors of Commerce in Management from MacEwan University. I am a Certified Internal Auditor and also Certified in Risk Management Assurance. Almost finished my Chartered Professional Accountant designation. (I know sounds like a lot, but I really love school!)

Internal Auditor (please don’t let that scare you off)

I have always had a passion for mentorship and helping others navigate their careers. In University, I participated in clubs and sought opportunities to help my fellow students navigate their education and learn about the career opportunities open to them.

I entered the corporate world as a very young woman at 18. My first job was at an organization that has over 10,000 employees. I have since moved on to work at both smaller and larger organizations. During my career, I have had some amazing mentors who not only taught me how to excel at my job, but encouraged me in every way possible. I have since looked to mentor, build and grow relationships with my co-workers and peers to help us all on the path to success.

I have  always found (encouraged by my fashionable mom) that the way I dressed helped me with confidence in the corporate world. This was especially true when I was significantly younger and inexperienced than people I was working with, which continues to this day.

It is my goal that this blog will not only provide you with great outfits to wear to the office and on your weekends off. Hopefully it will also help young women, like myself, navigate the corporate world with confidence.

Please let me know if there are any topics you’d like for me to write about in the comments. Thanks for reading!

Life, Personal

The Beginning of ‘The Courtney Collection’

The Courtney Collection…. the beginning of a new adventure.

I know what my husband, my family and close friends will say (something along the lines of “why add more to your plate…”) but creating this blog is something that has been on my mind for a couple of years now.

I am getting so close to achieving one of my goals this September and with that chapter of my life closing soon I can’t help but look to a new goal and a new challenge for myself. This one will take me outside of my comfort zone but I know that it will also allow me new experiences that I have been craving. I hope to share with you some awesome outfits for your work and weekends, makeup and skincare to love, and also dive deep into my experiences in the corporate world as a young woman.

As for the picture attached to this post, I couldn’t think of a better picture to kick off this blog with than one that shows the happiest day of my life so far. In April, I got married in the beautiful town of Canmore, Alberta to my wonderful, supportive husband. He always said he would be willing to be my “Instagram husband”.

So here goes…
