My Favourite Piece to Layer With

I am keeping it short and sweet today everyone. I have had such a busy time at work lately that sometimes you just have to prioritize! However, I still wanted to share these photos filled with this awesome black faux fur gilet. It is my favourite layering piece for fall and winter. Wearing it over any long sleeved top in the fall and even turtlenecks all winter long. It can be dressed up with faux leather leggings or a skirt. There are just sooooo many different options on how to wear one. Also, I am seriously considering this one with the hood as it looks super cozy.

Here are all the amazing different gilet options I was able to find for you!

Anyone else leave shopping for their Christmas Party Dress to the last minute?!

A little extra post this week because this year I am trying to be better and get this chosen way before I need to! I hate running around at the at the last minute searching for the perfect dress to wear to the office Christmas party. This is also a great opportunity to make sure all of you ladies out there are prepared too! I am planning to wear that fabulous maxi dress and guess what?! It is already in my closet waiting to get styled. Honestly, if I didn’t have a dress already my next choice would be the silver sequin dress! But I may or may not be ordering the gorgeous red velvet number in case I have another party come up last minute 😉

My favourite fall work look!

I am keeping it short and sweet today. The look I shared above is one I fall back to every fall season. I love the typical fall colours like burgundy and olive, but there is no way to deny my favourite colours to wear are good old black and white (yes, yes I always remember kids telling me they are shades not colours). Black and white pair with anything, making those rushed mornings that much easier. Pair a black and white top with some fall coloured work appropriate pants, throw on some simple accessories, grab your favourite work bag and get out the door!

What are your favourite things to style every fall??

How I Wear My Summer Wardrobe All Winter…

Tips and Tricks to Wear Your Summer Clothes All Winter

I don’t know about you but I don’t do some major turnover of my wardrobe during the fall. First, I do have quite a bit of clothes but I have not really organized them specifically by season. Second, I am just plain lazy about doing things like that. Third, why would I want to put a favourite piece of clothing away to not see it for the next couple of months! So below are my top 10 tips and tricks to wear your summer clothes all winter.

1. Just wear it!!

My top in the pictures above definitely looks like a summer top, and to be honest I love it. So I will wear it all winter long and just throw my big puffy jacket over it outside!

2. Closed toed shoes.

You can see in the pictures above I switched from sandals to a pair a of closed toed pumps. This helps the outfit feel a little bit more for colder weather without losing the style of the outfit.

3. Just add tights/stockings/pantyhose (whatever you call them!).

This was a big discussion around my office and all the ladies agreed. We continue to wear our skirts and dresses all year long by covering up our legs!

4. Don’t put away your summer colours/patterns.

Like my first point, keep wearing those pastel colours and floral tops and dresses, just add a darker hued sweater or blazer over top and you have a great mixture of colours to carry you through the colder months.

5. Layer up.

I think a lot of ladies like me who live in colder climates will know this but by adding a thermal top under just about anything will keep you warm. Or try a turtleneck under your favourite sleeveless dress!

6. Get some faux fur.

One of my favourite things to wear as the weather changes is a faux fur gillet/vest over top of whatever top I choose to wear during the day. It also adds a bit of glamour to your outfit during the day

7. Add a scarf.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good scarf. You can wear it to add a little texture to any outfit while keeping you nice and toasty. Several of my scarfs I can also wrap around me during the day if I get to chilly sitting in my office chair.

8. Add a cardigan.

One of my favourite pieces is to layer a cardigan over my tops. Honestly, I do this regardless of the weather. In the summer the A/C is usually pretty chilly in the office and in the winter the more layers the better. I have one in every colour of the rainbow I swear… I just counted I have 12. May be excessive but like I said I feel like I am in one every day year round!

9. Wear them boots!

Now, I have a really hard time giving up my open-toed shoes. Personally, I am not a fan of socks for some strange reason. However, when the time comes aka a lot of snow, I have to put on some socks and boots. I like to pair my sundress with a blazer and some OTK or knee-high boots to wear through the colder months.

10. Get a good winter coat.

This one is only half about the style of the coat. I live in the great white north and it gets really cold up here during the winter. Invest in a great winter coat that will keep you warm when you are outside. I focus more on the warmth than then style of the coat to be honest. I only have to wear it outside, and when I get inside it comes right off anyways! This means you can wear just about anything underneath it and still be warm when you venture outdoors.

Going Back To Work…

This week I went back to work! Those of you that follow along on Instagram are probably aware that I took a little bit of a break. I returned to my full time job this week after two months away. I am not ready to share exactly why I was off for those two months yet, but I will hopefully be able to soon!

I also would like to acknowledge how nervous I was about returning to my job. I have only been with the organization since March of this year. Returning to work after two months felt like I was starting all over again. However, I have a team of some pretty amazing people who accepted me back without a second thought or even skipping a beat!

In the end I am so happy I am to be back in the swing of things. I am ready to get back to posting regularly. Hopefully, you all keep following along!

How to Style One Top Two Ways

Two Ways Two Ways Two Ways Two Ways Two Ways Two Ways Two Ways Two Ways

Outfit 1: Top here | Pants old – same but new colour here  and other here| Bag here | Shoes (old) – similar here | Earrings here
Outfit 2: Jeans here (wearing long inseam so I could cuff them) | Shoes (old) – similar here (on sale!!) | Sunglasses here

Today I thought I’d share with you how I wear one top two ways!

One for work everyday, and another for casual Friday or weekend. I looove this top! I think it is a perfect piece to transition into fall with the colours and the long sleeves. However, still has some great details with cold shoulder and ruffles. For work, I like to wear coloured pants all the time, and these burgundy ones went so well with this top! Accessories wise, I wanted to keep the focus on the top so I kept them neutral.

Hope you all have a great long weekend ahead!

The Power of Habit

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

One of my favourite things to do on my commute for work has been to read a book and listen to music to pass the time. This started in University when I realized I could use this time to do all my textbook readings. In these last couple of years, on my way to and from work, reading some self-improvement and business minded books has helped me fill this time. Nowadays, I have become addicted to podcasts as I drive to work, but I will leave that for another post. Today I wanted to share with you one of most recent reads that I really enjoyed…

We all have habits that we both rely on and get stuck on every day. One habit I have is that when I get to work every day is to check my calendar and prepare my priority list for the day which helps with my productivity for the day. On the other hand, a bad one is my addiction to Starbucks coffee every morning (ahem… yes I know basic), which is expensive and not always the most healthy. Some habits are great and some are a part of being human and the difficulty we as humans have with handling change. Right now I am in the process of trying to break my Starbucks habit and maybe some other bad habits I have picked up over the course of my career.

In The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, the author uses numerous individual and business examples to show how you can achieve success by focusing on those daily patterns and habits that make up our lives. The first step in this is to understand how to change your bad habits and form good ones in their place. The author then goes through a simple, yet for me, life changing process for how you can change your habits and replace them with better ones.

While I am still working on changing that expensive and not always healthy Starbucks habit, this book has shown me that you can follow a method to change your habits. Once I have kicked this one habit, I hope to move on and apply this process to other habits in the future. You know… maybe like a regular workout routine…

Are there any books that have inspired you lately? Let me know in the comments, I would love to find some new reading material!
